How to Choose a PR Firm as an Interior Designer or Architect

You have a handful of professionally shot projects under your belt — now you want to get published. But what should you look for when searching for the right PR firm to represent you?

1. Niche Experience First and foremost, you want someone who has worked specifically in the interior design and architecture space. PR is not one-size-fits-all, and this industry has its own editorial calendar, relationships, and language. Experience here matters.

2. Client Roster Their past and current clients speak volumes. Take a close look at who they've represented — does their roster reflect the caliber and style of work you aspire to be associated with?

3. Proof Is in the Placements What media placements have they secured? Do those outlets align with the magazines and publications where you want to be featured? A firm with strong relationships at Architectural Digest means little if your goal is regional shelter press, and vice versa.

4. Their Own Branding(The most overlooked — and most telling — factor) This is a visual industry. Would you hire a hairstylist with bad hair? A fashion stylist who dresses poorly? Look critically at how the firm presents itself — their website, logo, photography, copy, and overall aesthetic. If their brand excites you, chances are they'll do the same for yours.

5. Active Digital Presence Are they consistently active on social media and maintaining an updated website? A PR firm that doesn't show up for itself won't show up for you either.
